As a newborn and baby photographer, I’m always aware of safety. To me, the safety and well-being of my precious little clients is the most important thing.
You might be surprised to know that the newborn photography industry is not regulated at all. Anyone can pick up a camera and set up in business calling themselves a newborn photographer, and there is nothing to stop them and noone checking that they are doing so safely.
Photographers like me, who take safety seriously, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create, are done safely.
For example, when you see an image like this:
You could be forgiven for thinking the baby here was just lifted in the air with no head support, and just Mum’s hands to keep her safe.
But the reality is, baby was never in the air. She was posed on my beanbag, with Mum’s hands cradling her. As you can see from the shot straight out of camera below.
Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers like me, who want to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service.
Thats why I decided to join BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association) and you will be able to find me on their directory of photographers here. They also have a fabulous Facebook page for pregnant and new parents here.
I’d be delighted to chat to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images for your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely.
